Ahh, summer. The long days of warmth and dreamy light, the invigorating smells drifting off lakes and rivers, in woods and backyards, the feeling of grass on bare feet, everything around you bright and playful, just beating with life! This recent shoot was everything summer. Suzannah (Suzi for short) beamed as bright and warm as a summer afternoon, especially when her Mom turned on the charm and brought out the smiles and giggles… you’ll see what I mean soon!
I met this cute little girl through working with her Mom, Ashlee, for the last 9 months. I’ll never forget the times I ran into them at or outside work, and how Suzi was always full of energy and thoughts and questions and curious smiles. I probably weirdly asked her too many questions, or bugged Ashlee about when we’d see Suzi at work again!? She was just too much fun- a little energetic ball of silliness with the cutest red hair you ever did see! And let me tell you, this girl knows how to work her own magic in front of a camera! She was fearless. Half of the posing she did herself, naturally, without any direction. Perfectly sweet and entertaining, she was a bit reserved (until I told her to run for the hills and she did just that), but still totally in her element, pink “princess” sundress and all.
As adults, we usually don’t like pictures of ourselves, which is sad. Yet when I knelt down to show Suzi the camera’s preview screen, she softly exclaimed, “oh I love that,” and my heart just melted. We were having so.much.fun. But fun almost always has it’s bittersweet endings, and after several hugs and high fives we took off separately from North Shore Park. What a night. I pulled up the driveway, stepped out of my car, and stood still for a few moments. Then I inhaled deeply, taking all the summer in that I could, eyes filled with wonder and my heart still smiling wide!
Everyone…meet Suzi! And then go have a little summer fun!
